Conway – The Central Arkansas women's soccer team will play its final match of the regular season on Friday night, hosting the Northwestern State Lady Demons at the Bill Stephens Complex at 7:00 PM. Prior to the match, the Bears will honor the careers of five players who will be stepping on to the pitch at the Stephens for the final time, in seniors
Shelby Wilson,
Allie Coleman,
Kelsey Johnson, and
Chele Naudin, and junior
Allie Moroney.
"I'm so honored to have been able to coach this group of young ladies," said UCA head coach Jeremy Bishop. "They were our first recruiting class, and they have been the foundation on which the program has been built. They have grown up to become outstanding individuals over the past four years. Each of them has their own personality and ways of going about things, but they all have made a huge impact on bringing this team together for such a successful season."
The group is one of the most successful in program history, winning 35 matches during their time in Conway and helping to lead the Bears to three Southland Conference Tournament Appearances and one Southland Conference regular season title. The group also excels off the field, as each carries a GPA of at least 3.00.
Wilson, from Flower Mound, Texas, has been a presence in the Central Arkansas midfield since arriving in Conway, playing in a program record 78 games and seeing over 5,800 minutes of action. She ranks second in program history with 19 assists and 5,812 minutes played and sits eighth with 43 points, while also ranking in the top 10 in assists per game, shots attempted, shots on goal, and games started. Wilson is pursuing a degree in Family and Consumer Science.
"Shelby is our hype leader," said Bishop. "She's always making sure that everyone is pumped. She plays as hard as anyone ever could, in every practice and every game."
Coleman, from McKinney, Texas, has partnered with Wilson in the midfield to form a solid core for the Bears over the past four seasons, playing in 73 games and over 5,600 minutes. She is tied for fifth in program history in matches played, sixth in matches started (66), and is third in minutes played (5,658). Coleman is also pursuing a degree in Family and Consumer Science.
"Allie is a rock for us," said Bishop. "She's rarely too high or too low. She's a great example of consistency in her play and in her work ethic."
Johnson, from Spring, Texas, has been unable to see action this season following offseason brain surgery, but has taken part in 44 matches while playing 1,529 minutes over the previous three season. She has collected a pair of assists while taking 10 shots, five of which have been on goal. Johnson is pursuing a degree in Kinesiology and Physical Education.
"KJ is such a huge motivator for us, always being encouraging, supportive, and compassionate," said Bishop. "Through her trials this year and her daily interactions with her teammates, she motivates them to be their best."
Naudin, from Princeton, Texas, has played in 55 matches during her career, scoring six goals and adding an assist for a total of 13 points while playing 1,680 minutes. She has recorded one game-winning goal and converted on her sole attempt from the penalty spot while putting 22 of her 52 shots on goal. Naudin is pursuing a degree in Sociology with a focus on Criminology.
"Chele is an organizer," said Bishop. She's always making sure everyone knows what to do and when to do it, and always trying to hold the team responsible for their conduct and encouraging them to things right."
Moroney, from Keller, Texas, will be graduating after spending just three seasons in Conway. She has played in 41 matches for 2,572 minutes on the UCA backline, helping to transform it into one of the most effective in program history this season. She is pursuing a degree in Communications.
"Allie is such an encourager," said Bishop. "She's almost always positive and upbeat, with a smile on her face. She tries to be optimistic all the time and provides support for her teammates in every situation."
The Bears (14-3-1, 9-0-1 SLC) will be looking close out the season undefeated in Southland Conference play with a win over the Lady Demons (10-6-1, 7-2-1 SLC). Kickoff is set for 7:00 PM, with Senior Day ceremonies set to begin at approximately 6:45 PM.
