Conway – The Central Arkansas women's soccer team looks to remain the only unbeaten team in the Southland Conference with a pair of matches on the road this weekend. The Bears will take on Houston Baptist at 7:00 PM tonight, before facing off with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 1:00 PM on Sunday.
Central Arkansas (10-3-1, 5-0-1 SLC) played just once last week, facing off with fellow SLC unbeaten Stephen F. Austin in Nacogdoches, Texas. After the Ladyjacks took the lead in the 24
th minute, the Bears stormed back late in the second half, getting goals from junior

Camille Bassett (88') to knock off SFA for the first time since 2006 and take the reins in the SLC Championship race.
On the season, the Bears have been dominant at both ends of the field, leading the Southland in points (90), goals (31), assists (28), goals allowed (9), goals against average (0.63), and shutouts (8). Central Arkansas ranks in the top-20 nationally in both save percentage (.862) and shutout percentage (.571). Individually, Bassett leads the way offensively for the Bears, as she sits at the top of the conference in shots per game (4.25), shots on goal per game (2.58), points (21), goals (9), and game-winning goals (4). Her 2.58 shots on goal per game are the eighth-most in the nation. Fellow sophomore
Ashley Smith has also carried a heavy load offensively, tying for third in goals (7) and game-winning goals (2), while sitting fifth in points (17). Junior
Alex Moore is tied for second in the conference with six assists, while senior
Shelby Wilson is tied for fourth with five. In goal, the Bears lean on a platoon comprised of two of the strongest keepers in the Southland Conference, in junior
Anna Hughes and sophomore
Lauren Mercuri. Hughes leads the league in goals against average (0.43) and save percentage (.875), while Mercuri sits third in both categories with an 0.83 GAA and a .850 save percentage.
Houston Baptist (5-7-1, 3-2-1 SLC) fell to Abilene Christian by a 3-0 margin last weekend to snap a two-match winning streak. The Huskies sit sixth in the Southland with 59
points on the year, thanks to 22 goals and 17 assists, which rank sixth and fourth in the league. Defensively, HBU sits ninth in the league with a GAA of 1.87 and has collected three shutouts. Sophomore Gabby Rodriguez leads HBU and is tied for sixth in the Southland with six goals this season, while seniors Allison Abendschein and Elizabeth Adams each have three assists. In goal, junior Katie Turner is fourth in the league with 5.56 saves per game while compiling a GAA of 2.18 and a save percentage of .725. Central Arkansas trails in the all-time series with HBU by a slim 2-1 margin. The Huskies won last year's meeting in Conway 2-1 in overtime.
Texas A&M-CC (1-12-0, 1-5-0 SLC) earned its first win of the season last weekend, defeating Incarnate Word 2-1 in overtime, and will take on Northwestern State tonight before hosting the Bears on Sunday. The Islanders average 0.62 goals per game this season, while conceding 3.74 goals per game. Freshman Shayla Spearman leads the way offensively for TAMUCC, tallying three goals and an assist, while junior Brooke Erdmann has a goal and two assists. In goal, junior Jordan Wainwright leads the Southland with 6.50 saves per game and sits sixth with 52 total saves while surrendering 4.15 goals per game. The Islanders lead the all-time series 2-1, thanks to a 2-1 win in Conway last season.
