UCA TENNIS FALLS IN FIRST ROUND OF SLC TOURNAMENT

Beaumont, Texas – The Central Arkansas women's tennis team took the court for a first round matchup in the Southland Conference Tournament against the third-seeded Lady Demons of Northwestern State on Friday. The Bears, who were seeded sixth, fought hard, but ultimately fell to NSU 4-0.

The Lady Demons (14-8) took all three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead. Bianca Strukelj and Kristina Horsikyan dropped the no. 3 match 8-4 to Aliona Ladutska and Emily Kerr, while Allison Murphy and Kelsey Williams fell 8-5 to Kateryna Piatakova and Polina Ivanova in the no. 2 match. The no. 1 match between Nataly Yoo and Cassidy Crawford and Tatiana Larina and Natalya Krutova went unfinished.

In singles play, NSU scored victories in the nos. 4, 2, and 3 matches to lock up the win. Murphy fell to Ivanova 6-3, 6-1 in the no. 4 match, and Williams dropped the no. 2 match 6-2, 6-3 to Krutova. The Lady Demons ended the match when Horsikyan lost the no. 3 match 6-2, 6-1 to Ladutska. The no. 1 match between Yoo and Larina, the no. 5 match between Crawford and Piatakova, and the no. 6 match between Strukelj and Kerr all went unfinished.

With the loss, the Bears saw one of the most successful seasons in program history come to an end. Central Arkansas finishes the season with an overall record of 9-8 (.529) and an SLC mark of 4-6 (.400). Both winning percentages are the second-highest in program history since Central Arkansas moved to Division I in 2006.
