BEARS CLOSE OUT REGULAR SEASON WITH LOSS TO ISLANDERS

Belton, Texas – The Central Arkansas women's tennis team closed out the regular season on Monday, travelling to Belton, Texas to meet the Islanders of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The Bears, who played their fourth match in six days, were unable to get anything going, falling to the Islanders 4-0.
Since the teams agreed to play singles matches first, none of the three doubles matches were played on the day.

The Islanders (13-8, 7-4 SLC) won the nos. 3 through 6 matches, causing the no. 1 match between Nataly Yoo and Jelena Dzinic and the no. 2 match between Kelsey Williams and Judit Vives to go unfinished. Kristina Horsikyan dropped the no. 3 match 6-2, 6-4 to Celia Rodriguez, while Allison Murphy fell in the no. 4 match 6-0, 6-1 to Maider Martin. In the no. 5 match, Cassidy Crawford fell victim to Chelsea Horan by a score of 6-2, 6-2 and the no. 6 match saw Amanda Alvarez fall 6-1, 6-2 to Kerry Galhos.

"We played at the University of Mary Hardin Bayor, which is a great campus with great facilities and is a great neutral site for us and Corpus," said Central Arkansas coach Casey Wharton. "I am extremely appreciative of UMHB allowing us to use their facilities. As for the tennis, we just didn't compete as hard as we usually do. This far into the season, everybody is tired and worried about classes, but we have to find a way to dig deep and find that fire again in order to bounce back and be ready for the conference tournament."

The Bears (9-7, 4-7 SLC), earned the sixth seed in the upcoming Southland Conference Women's Tennis Championship Tournament, which takes place this weekend in Beaumont, Texas. UCA will play third-seeded Northwestern State at 2:00 PM on Friday, with the winner advancing to a second round match-up against either no. 2 Stephen F. Austin or no. 7 New Orleans. "It looks like we earned the sixth seed and Northwestern State earned the three seed, which is a team that we matched up with the first time that we played."
