Lake Charles, La. – The Central Arkansas women's tennis team took the court on Tuesday afternoon, facing off against the McNeese State Cowgirls in Lake Charles, Louisiana. The Bears came up short on the day, falling 6-1.
In doubles play, the Cowgirls (6-5, 2-1 SLC) took the first match as Julia Kral and Hannah Brett defeated Kelsey Williams and Allison Murphy 8-2 in the no. 2 match. The Bears (7-3, 2-3 SLC) evened the score though, as Bianca Strukelj and Kristina Horsikyan won a hard-fought no. 3 match 8-7 (4-0) over Sarah Jurakova and Vivien Borbely. In the final doubles match, McNeese State secured the doubles point, when Nataly Yoo and Cassidy Crawford fell to Klaudia Gawlik and Anastasija Trubich 8-3.
In singles play, Central Arkansas quickly evened the score, as Nataly Yoo defeated two-time SLC Women's Tennis Player of the Year Klaudia Gawlik 5-2 when Gawlik was forced to retire from the no. 1 match. That was the only point the Bears would get on the day though, Brett defeated Horsikyan 6-1, 6-3 in the no. 3 match, and Jurakova scored a 6-1, 6-4 win over Crawford in the no. 5 match. In the no. 6 match, Trubich scored a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Amanda Alvarez, and the no. 2 match saw Williams fall to Kral 6-4, 6-3. Murphy gave the Bears a strong shot at another point in the no. 4 match, but fell just short, falling 6-2, 4-6, 10-6 to Borbely.
The Bears look to get back to their winning ways tomorrow, taking on Grambling State.
