Moraga, Calif. – The Central Arkansas men's soccer team hit the road for the first time this season, travelling to Moraga, California to battle the Gaels of St. Mary's. The Bears grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first half, but the Gaels equalized and then pulled away following a pair of red cards in the second half to take down UCA 3-1.
Blake Stricker gave Central Arkansas (2-1) the lead in the ninth minute, scoring his first goal in the purple and gray off of a corner kick from Manuel Montal to put the Bears up 1-0. The UCA lead would hold until the 71
st minute, when Michael Semenza evened the score at 1-1.
Following a pair of ejections to Central Arkansas players, St. Mary's (2-2) took advantage of the short-handed Bears, scoring a pair of goals just two minutes apart to earn the victory. Nicolas Gamp put the Gaels up 2-1 in the 83
rd minute, before Nathan Grixti scored the game's final goal in the 85
th minute.
Harrison Veith suffered his first career loss for the Bears, making three saves and allowing three goals, while Andre Rawls picked up his second victory of the season by making three saves and allowing one goal.
Central Arkansas will continue its tour of the West Coast on Sunday, taking on the Dons of San Francisco at 5:00 PM on Sunday.
