Tulsa, Okla. – The Central Arkansas women's tennis team returned to action after a full week off on Sunday, travelling to Tulsa, Oklahoma to take on the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles. ORU took two of the three doubles matches to grab an early 1-0 lead, but the Bears rebounded in singles play, winning five of six singles matches to defeat the Golden Eagles 5-2 and win their third straight Southland Conference match.
In doubles play, Oral Roberts (3-12, 0-8 SLC) picked up a victory in the no. 1 match, as Melanie Marlin and Marizanne Bouwer defeated Kelsey Williams and Kristina Horsikyan 8-3. The Golden Eagles secured the doubles point in the no. 2 match, when Ximena Puentes and Haley Martin outlasted Simona Horsikyan and Cassidy Crawford 8-7 (7-5). Krizia Buck and Sasha Ruocco took the no. 3 match for Central Arkansas (10-9, 3-6 SLC), defeating Mairead Cleary and Nika Munoz 8-3.
In singles play, Martin extended the ORU lead to 2-0 in the no. 1 match, defeating Simona Horsikyan 6-4, 4-6, 6-1, before the Bears won the next five matches. Williams won the no. 2 match 6-3, 7-5 over Bouwer, and Kristina Horsikyan took the no. 3 match 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 over Marlin. In the no. 4 match, Crawford took down Puentes 6-2, 6-2, while in the no. 4 match, Buck scored a 6-2, 6-3 defeat of Cleary. In the no. 6 match, Bianca Strukelj picked up the win, taking down Munoz 6-3, 6-1.
The Bears have another week off, before hitting the court twice next Sunday. Central Arkansas will take the court against SLC opponent Incarnate Word at 10:00 A.M. before playing host to Arkansas-Pine Bluff at 2:30 P.M.
