WOMEN’S TENNIS ENDS HISTORIC SEASON WITH SLC TOURNEY LOSS

Corpus Christi, Texas – The Central Arkansas women's tennis team saw its most successful season at the Division I level come to a close on Friday, as the seventh-seeded Bears fell in the first round of the Southland Conference Tournament to second-seeded Texas A&M-Corpus Christi by a score of 4-0.

The Bears (13-11, 5-7 SLC) dropped two of the three doubles matches to cede a 1-0 lead to the Islanders (20-5, 11-1 SLC). Kristina Horsikyan and Cassidy Crawford fell in the no. 2 match to Maider Martin and Celia Rodriguez by a score of 8-4, and in the no. 3 match Krizia Buck and Sasha Ruocco lost the no. 3 match 8-3 to Kerry Galhos and Stefania Nicolae. The no. 1 match between UCA's Kelsey Williams and Allison Murphy and AMCC's Sandra Burgess and Judit Vives went unfinished.

In singles play, the Islanders took the first three matches finished to secure the victory. Crawford lost the no. 4 match to Rodriguez 6-2, 6-0, and Buck fell in the no. 5 match by a score of 6-4, 6-1 to Burges. Bianca Strukelj lost the no. 6 match to Galhos by a tally of 6-0, 6-0. The no. 1 match between Simona Horsikyan and Nicolae, the no. 2 match between Williams and  Vives, and the no. 3 match between Kristina Horsikyan and Martin all went unfinished.

Central Arkansas ends the season with 13 wins, five of which came in SLC play. Both numbers are records for the Bears since moving to Division I in 2006.
