Conway – The Central Arkansas women's tennis team took to the courts in Conway, Arkansas for the final match of their regular season on Tuesday, playing host to the Lady Lions of Arkansas-Pine Bluff. The Bears won in commanding fashion, sweeping the Lady Lions 7-0.
The Bears (13-10) swept all three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead on the day. Kelsey Williams and Allison Murphy score an 8-2 victory over Maria Cabane and Fabiola Cardoso in the no. 1 match, while Kristina Horsikyan and Cassidy Crawford picked up an 8-4 win over Elizabeth Perez-Rodriguez and Monica Arcos in the no. 2 match. The no. 3 saw Sasha Ruocco and Krizia Buck take down Kadijah Kenyatte and Destiny Jones 8-1.
In singles play, the Bears continued their dominant performance, winning all six matches in straight sets. Simona Horsikyan took down Cabane 6-0, 6-1 in the no. 1 match, and in the no. 2 match Williams picked up a 6-0, 7-5 win over Perez-Rodriguez. Kristina Horsikyan took the first set of the no. 3 match before Arcos had to retire. Crawford won the no. 4 match 6-1, 6-0 over Kenyatte, and in the no. 5 match Buck picked up a 6-2, 6-1 win over Cardoso. Bianca Strukelj finished the sweep for Central Arkansas, taking down Jones 6-1, 6-0 in the no. 6 match.
Central Arkansas, who secured the seventh-seed in the Southland Conference Championship Tournament, will take on second-seeded Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in the first round of the SLC Tournament on Friday. The Bears and Islanders will face off at 2:00 P.M., with the winner facing the victor of the match between McNeese State and Southeastern Louisiana at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday.
