Beaumont, Texas – The Central Arkansas women's tennis team continued its Southland Conference schedule on Saturday, travelling to Beaumont, Texas to take on the Lamar Lady Cardinals. The Bears picked up their second straight SLC win, taking down Lamar 5-2.
Central Arkansas (9-9, 2-6 SLC) picked up a pair of wins in the doubles competition to take a 1-0 lead. Kristina Horsikyan and Kelsey Williams earned an 8-1 victory over Carolina Maso and Alicia Porte in the no. 1 match, while Krizia Buck and Sasha Ruocco took down Katya Lapayeva and Anna Spengler 8-4 in the no. 3 match to give the Bears the early lead. The no. 2 match between Simona Horsikyan and Cassidy Crawford, and Dariya Dashutina and Hanna Elfving went unfinished.
In singles play, the Bears took four of six matches to secure the win. In the no. 2 match, Williams took down Maso 7-5, 6-3, and in the no. 3 match Kristina Horsikyan earned a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Porte. In the no. 4 match, Crawford scored a 6-1, 6-0 over Elfving, and in the no. 6 match, Bianca Strukelj dropped the first set but battled back to take down Spengler 4-6, 6-4, 6-2. Dashutina earned a point for Lamar (4-9, 1-4 SLC) in the no. 1 match, taking down Simona Horsikyan 5-7, 6-3, 10-5, and Lapayeva picked up another point with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Buck in the no. 5 match.
Central Arkansas will play a single match in the upcoming week, heading to Tulsa, Oklahoma on Sunday to face off against Oral Roberts.
