Huntsville, Texas – The Central Arkansas women's tennis team hit the court to continue its Southland Conference schedule in Huntsville, Texas on Friday. The Bears earned their first conference win of the season, taking down the Bearkats 6-1.
Central Arkansas (8-9, 1-6 SLC) built a 1-0 lead in doubles play, taking two of three matches to earn the point. Kristina Horsikyan and Kelsey Williams scored an 8-5 win over Imke Jagau and Kayla Stevenson in the no. 1 match, while Krizia Buck and Sasha Ruocco scored a default victory in the no. 3 match as Sam Houston State (3-7, 1-4 SLC) was unable to field a team due to injuries. The Bearkats'Isabella Costa and Natalie Petaia defeated Cassidy Crawford and Simona Horsikyan 8-3 in the no. 2 match.
The Bears secured the win in singles play, picking up victories in five of the six matches. Simona Horsikyan defeated Jagau 6-0, 6-2 in the no. 1 match, and in the no. 2 match, Williams earned a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Stevenson. Kristina Horsikyan dropped the first set of the no. 3 match, but rebounded to score a 1-6, 6-4, 10-6 win over Petaia. Buck picked up a 6-0, 6-2 win over Costa in the no. 5 match, while in the no. 6 match, Bianca Strukelj scored a default victory as the Bearkats were unable to place a player in the match due to injuries. Karen Martinez gave SHSU its only point of the day in the no. 4 match, defeating Crawford by a score of 6-1, 2-6, 12-10.
Central Arkansas hits the court again tomorrow morning, travelling to Beaumont, Texas to take on the Lamar Lady Cardinals at 10:00 A.M.
