CONWAY, Ark. _ University of Central Arkansas freshman Samantha Gibson took top honors in the heptathlon at last weekend's UCA Relay/Multi meet held at the Bill Stephens Track & Soccer Complex.
Gibson, from Pittsburgh, Pa., finished with 4,560 points, winning the javelin and 800 meters in the final to events to take over the lead. Fellow freshman Hadley Swanson, from Morago, Calif., finished third with 3,975 points.
Freshman Sarah Calhoun, of Fayetteville, won the pole vault with a height of 10-3.75. Freshman Anna Kirk, of Dunlap, Iowa, won the javelin with a throw of 125-3.5. Freshman Medley Hinman was third in the hammer with a throw of 118-2.7.
UCA won four of the six relay events, winning the 4x100 (46.730, the 4x200 (1:39.63), the 4x400Â (3:58.11) and the 4x1,600 (21:12.32). UCA was second in the 4x800 (10:10.22) and the 4,000 DMRÂ (12:18.75).
 Freshman Madison Sewell of Texarkana, Texas, won the 5,000 meters in a time of 19:55.74, followed by senior Emily Carroll of Melbourne in second (21:14.92).
On the men's side, freshman Alex Miles of Rogers won the decathlon with 5,979 points, followed by freshman Matthew McDonald of Springdale in second (5,290) and junior Travis Nagle of Randolph, NY in third (5,138).
Senior Trey Carter of Bentonville was second in the javelin with a throw of 184-2. Sophomore Kenneth Stice of Plano, Texas, was third in the 5,000 meters (16:06.25), followed by freshman Will Lambert of Sherwood in fourth (16:12.73) and freshman Alex Battaglia of Bentonville in fifth (16:24.84).
UCA's A team won the 4x800 relay in a time of 8:12.92 and also won the 4x1,600 relay in a time of 18:00.25). UCA won the 4,000 DMR in a time of 10:17.50. UCA's A team was third in the 4x400 relay (3:17.65).
