Conway – The Central Arkansas women's tennis team returned to the court on Sunday, hosting Southland Conference foe Nicholls State at the Central Arkansas Tennis Courts. The Colonels game away from the match with the win, taking down the Bears 5-2.
Central Arkansas (7-8, 0-5 SLC) took two of the three doubles matches to take an early 1-0 lead. Cassidy Crawford and Simona Horsikyan took down the Colonels' Klara Skopac and Emma Kranendonk by a score of 8-6 to win the no. 2 match, while in the no. 3 match, Krizia Buck and Sasha Ruocco scored an 8-6 victory over Marie Aubert and Kateryna Nakonechna. Nicholls' Isla Brock and Stephanie Barnett took down iKelsey Williams and Kristina Horsikyan by a score of 8-4 in the no. 1 match.
Nicholls (9-4, 3-1 SLC) overcame the Bears' lead in singles play taking five of the six matches to pick up the win. Kristina Horsikyan was the only Bear to earn a victory in singles play, taking the no. 3 match 6-3, 6-3 over Nokonechna. Simona Horsikyan fell to Aubert by a score of 0-6, 6-3, 7-5 in the no. 1 match, and in the no. 2 match, Williams fell victim to Barnett, by a score of 6-3, 6-3. Crawford dropped the no. 4 match 6-1, 6-3 to Skopac, and in the no. 5 match, Buck lost for the first time in 12 matches, falling to Brock by a tally of 6-3, 6-4. Bianca Strukelj lost the no. 6 match 1-6, 6-3, 6-0 to Kranendonk.
Central Arkansas will hit the court four times this week. On Tuesday, the Bears will face Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in Dallas, Texas, before traveling to Prairie View A&M for a match on Wednesday. Central Arkansas will play at Sam Houston State on Saturday, before closing out the week at Lamar on Sunday.
