WOMEN’S TENNIS FALLS TO LOUISIANA TECH TO OPEN SEASON

Sasha Ruocco picked up a 6-4, 4-6, 13-11 win on Sunday
Conway – After their first two matches were postponed due to inclement weather, the Central Arkansas tennis team finally hit the court to open the 2014 season. The Bears hosted Louisiana Tech at Hendrix University's Indoor Tennis Center, falling to the Lady Techsters by a score of 6-1.

The Lady Techsters opened the match by sweeping all three doubles matches. Central Arkansas' Allison Murphy and Kelsey Williams fell in no. 1 play 6-0 to Joanna Nalborska and Alexandra Starkova. Cassidy Crawford and Kristina Horsikyan fell 6-5 (7-4) to Melanie Urvoy and Marta Sramkova in no. 2 doubles, while in the no. 3 match Sasha Ruocco and Krizia Buck fell to Taly Merker and Jazmin Britos by a tally of 6-3.

In singles competition, Simona Horsikyan fell to Starkova 6-3, 6-3 in the no. 1 match. Williams dropped the no. 2 match to Sramkova 6-1, 6-0, and in the no. 3 match Kristina Horsikyan fell to Nalborska 6-1, 6-0. The no. 4 match saw Crawford fall to Britos 6-2, 6-3. Sasha Ruocco got the Bears their only point of the day in the no. 5 match, as she defeated Manoela Chiacchio 6-4, 4-6, 13-11. The no. 6 match went to the Lady Techsters, as Merker defeated Buck 6-2, 6-3.

Central Arkansas hits the road next weekend to play a pair of matches in Murray, Kentucky. The Bears will play Murray State on Saturday before battling Tennessee-Martin on Sunday.
