Conway – The 2014 Capital One Academic All-District Teams, which recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their performance both on the field and in the classroom, have been released. The teams, which are selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and America.
Central Arkansas defender
Sam Cusack, has been named one of four defenders on the District 6 team, which is composed of players from colleges and universities in Arkansas, Iowa, Louisiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.
Cusack, a senior from London, England, carries a 3.90 GPA while pursuing a degree in Finance. He has appeared in all 15 of Central Arkansas' matches this season, tallying 1,206 minutes played, which ranks fourth on the team. Cusack has taken four shots from the Central Arkansas back line. "Sam is a guy that truly emphasizes the 'self-made man' mantra," said Central Arkansas head coach Ross Duncan. "He gets everything done that we ask of him, and that his professors ask of him, and he's a great example of what it means to be a student-athlete. He came very highly-recommended from Yavapi Community College, both on the field and off, and he's not only met those expectations, he's exceeded them."
All players who receive Academic All-District Honors become eligible for the Capital One Academic All-America team, which will be announced in November. "This reward is an individual one, and Sam has certainly earned it," said Duncan. "But it reflects the values of our group and I couldn't be happier that it was Sam that was recognized."
