The Central Arkansas tennis team played its fourth match in seven days on Friday, playing host to Southwest Athletic Conference member Alcorn State. The Bears took down the Braves by a score of 5-2.
Central Arkansas (9-12) took all three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead on the day. Simona Horsikyan and Allison Murphy won the no. 1 doubles match 9-8 over Kerstem Vanem and Viktoriya Kozachuk for their second victory this season. In no. 2 doubles play, Krizia Buck and Sasha Ruocco improved to 4-4 with an 8-0 victory over Arielie Buckmann and Aakanksita Punj. In the final doubles match of the day, Kristina Horsikyan and Anna Buyukyan improved to 15-5 with an 8-4 victory over Merilin Tipp and Kate Potapova.
In singles play, the Bears were able to take four of the six matches to complete their victory. In no. 1 play, Simona Horsikyan fell to Vanem by a score of 6-3, 3-6, 6-0. Allison Murphy picked up her team-leading 11
th victory of the season in no. 2 play, defeating Buckmann 6-0, 6-0. The no. 3 match went to Central Arkansas, as Kristina Horsikyan took down Kozachuk by a score of 1-6, 6-3, 6-1 for her eighth victory. The no. 4 match say Alcorn’s Potapova defeat Buck 6-4, 6-4. In the no. 5 match, Ruocco pushed her winning streak to three matches with a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Chan Rutherford. The final match of the day saw Buyukyan improve to 6-8 with a 2-6, 6-3, 10-4 victory over Tipp.
The Bears will return to action on April 9, traveling to Pine Bluff, Arkansas to face in-state foe Arkansas-Pine Bluff. The match is scheduled to begin at noon.
