The past week has been an eventful one for the Central Arkansas tennis team, as the Bears have played three Southland Conference matches. The Bears fell to Lamar (0-7) and McNeese State (2-5) and defeated Oral Roberts (7-0) to move to 8-12 overall and 2-5 in SLC play.
Against Lamar, who have dropped only one SLC match this season, the Bears were unable to score a victory in any match, dropping all three matches in doubles play and all six matches in singles play.
The Bears showed better against McNeese, winning two of three doubles matches to score that point, and taking one of the singles matches. Krizia Buck and Sasha Ruocco defeated Klaudia Gawlik and Andreea Nenu 8-5 in no. 2 doubles, and Kristina Horsikyan and Anna Buyukyan took down Diana Pirciu and Annabelle Peacock 8-5 in no. 3 doubles to give UCA the 1-0 lead heading into singles play. The Cowgirls were dominant in the singles matches however, as only Sasha Ruocco was able to score a victory for
Central Arkansas. Ruocco defeated Pirciu in no. 5 play by a score of 1-6, 7-6, 6-0.
Central Arkansas was the dominant team against Oral Roberts on Tuesday, picking up a 7-0 victory over the Golden Eagles. The Bears dropped only one match on the day (no. 1 doubles), taking every available point to earn the sweep. Buck and Ruocco took no. 2 doubles 8-2 while Kristina Horsikyan and Buyukyan won no. 3 doubles 8-4 to give the Bears a 1-0 lead.
Central Arkansas used strong singles play to earn the victory, dropping only one set in the six singles matches. Simona Horsikyan improved to 8-12 with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Haley Martin in no. 1 play. In the no. 2 match, Allison Murphy moved to 10-9 with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Melanie Marlin. Kristina Horsikyan picked up her seventh win of the season with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Marizanne Bouwer in no. 3 play. Krizia Buck picked up her 10
th victory of the season, a 6-3, 5-7, 10-4 victory over Tori Dollar in no. 4 play. Sasha Ruocco is the only Bear with back-to-back wins, defeating Natalia Dollar 6-1, 6-0. In the final match of the day, Anna Buyukyan improved to 5-8 on the season, taking down Rachel Scroggs 6-0, 6-1.
