Central Arkansas and Stephen F. Austin met yesterday in Texarkana, Texas to play the final regular season match of the year. The match was initially scheduled for March 17 in Conway, but had to be rescheduled due to rain. Central Arkansas got the win, taking down the Ladyjacks 6-1.
Stephen F. Austin has been bitten by the injury bug of late, causing one doubles match and the no. 6 singles match to be forfeited to Central Arkansas. The teams split the remaining two doubles matches, giving the point to the Bears. Malena Gordo and Julia Gordo defeated Simona Horsikyan and Allison Murphy in the no. 1 doubles match by a score of 8-5. The no. 2 match went to Central Arkansas, as Sasha Ruocco and Krizia Buck improved to 7-5 on the season with an 8-2 victory over Kateryna Bugayenko and Valeria Terentyeva.
In singles play, the Bears (12-13, 3-5 SLC) won four of the five matches played. Simona Horsikyan took the no. 1 match over Gordo by a score of 4-6, 6-2, 6-4, finishing the season with a record of 11-14 in singles play. Allison Murphy won the no. 2 match with a 7-5, 4-6, 6-4 win over Julia Lorca, ending the season with a record of 14-10. In the no. 3 match, Kristina Horsikyan moved to 11-14, taking down Kateryna Bugayenko 6-4, 6-3. Krizia Buck came out on top in the no. 4 match, defeating Valeria Terentyeva by a score of 1-6, 6-2, 6-1 to improve to 13-11 on the year. Stephen F. Austin took the no. 5 match when Laura Servise defeated Sasha Ruocco by a score of 7-5, 6-4. Ruocco finished the season with a record of 10-12.
The Bears will take place in the Southland Conference Women’s Tennis tournament, where they earned the no. 8 seed. They will take on top-seeded Southeastern Louisiana on Friday, April 26 at 2:00 pm.
