UCA DEFEATS NICHOLLS STATE BY FORFEIT

* Central Arkansas was awarded a victory by the Southland Conference on March 18, 2013 after the SLC determined that an ineligible participated in the match for Nicholls State

Conway, Ark. –

The Central Arkansas (5-2, 0-2 SLC) tennis team faced off with Southland Conference foe Nicholls State at the Burns Park Indoor Tennis Facility, dropping a 5-2 decision to the Colonels.

In doubles play, Nicholls (4-2, 1-0 SLC) took two out of three matches to earn the point. Natalia Cardiff and Parija Maloo defeated Krizia Buck and Allison Murphy by a score of 8-3 and Isla Brock and Marie Aubert defeated Sasha Ruocco and Simona Horsikyan by the same score. In the final doubles match, Kristina Horsikyan and Anna Buyukyan picked up their sixth doubles victory of the season with an 8-3 victory over Emma Pitre and Rachael Howie.

Singles play saw Nicholls pick victories in four of six matches.  In the no. 1 match, Maloo defeated Simona Horsikyan 7-5, 6-2 and in no. 2 play, Natalia Cardiff defeated Allison Murphy 6-3, 6-1. The no. 3 match saw Aubert pick up a 1-6, 7-6, 6-2 victory over Kristina Horsikyan. In the no. 4 singles match, Buck earned her fifth victory of the season with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Howie. The fifth singles match went to Nicholls when Brock defeated Ruocco by a score of 6-4, 6-4. In the final match of the day, Buyukyan defeated Pitre 6-4, 6-2 to earn her third victory of the season.

Central Arkansas returns to the court on Tuesday afternoon, traveling to Fort Smith to face off with Arkansas-Fort Smith.
