Thibodaux, La. - Central Arkansas came up short in its attempt to move up in the Southland Conference Tennis standings Saturday morning, falling 4-3 to Nicholls State.
The singles competition was tightly contested, with each school taking three of the six matches played on the day. The Sugar Bears took the No. 6 singles by default, while Sasha Ruocco defeated Catherine Gauthier 6-2, 6-2 in No. 5 singles, and Kristina Horsikyan defeated Janna Leeuwerik 6-2, 6-2 in No. 3 singles. The victory is the fifth in a row for Horsikyan, who is 11-4 at the No. 3 position on the season.
Nicholls took two of the three doubles matches, with the Sugar Bears lone doubles victory coming when Ruocco and Horsikyan won the No. 3 matchup by default, moving their doubles record to 14-7 on the season.
The Sugar Bears end the regular season tomorrow morning in Hammond, La., facing off with the Southeastern Louisiana Lions at 11:00.
