SUGAR BEARS EARN 4-3 VICTORY OVER SEMO

Simona Horsikyan earned a singles victory and partnered with Kazumi Otani to get a doubles win in Sunday's 4-3 win over SEMO.
CONWAY, Ark. – The University of Central Arkansas tennis team got back in the win column on Sunday morning as they defeated the Southeast Missouri State Redhawks 4-3 on the campus of Hendrix College.
 
The Sugar Bears managed the doubles point, picking up victories at No. 2 and No. 3 spots. That proved to be the difference as the teams split singles play, 3-3.
 
In singles action, UCA got wins at the No. 1, No. 3 and No. 5 spots. Simona Horsikyan picked up her second singles win of the year with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Nikole Novikona. At No. 3 singles, Allison Murphy downed Jessica Courtnell, 6-4, 6-1 and Sasha Ruocco improved to 2-4 this season, defeating Laura Garcia, 6-0, 6-1.
 
Doubles play saw SEMO’s Nikole Novikova and Elizabeth Nyenwe get the best of Allison Hartman and Murphy 8-4. However, S. Horsikyan and Kazumi Otani took an 8-4 win over Courtnell and Heather Robinson. Kristina Horsikyan and Ruocco then secured the doubles point with an 8-3 victory over Melissa Martin and Lauren Schaper. With the win, K. Horsikyan and Ruocco improved their doubles record to 4-2.
 
The Sugar Bears will return to the courts this Wednesday at 1 p.m. when they play host to Arkansas-Fort Smith.
