N. LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The University of Central Arkansas tennis team dropped their fourth straight match Saturday afternoon at the Burns Park Tennis Complex, losing 7-0 to Stephen F. Austin.
UCA’s record fell to 1-4 and 0-3 in Southland Play, while Stephen F. Austin improved to 5-2 and 1-0 in the conference.
The Jacks started the day by sweeping through doubles, earning the point. Tereza Bekerova and Malena Gordo downed Allison Murphy and Allison Hartman, 8-0. In No. 2 doubles, Kazumi Otani and Simona Horsikyan fell to Alina Shazko and Jithmie Jayawickrema, 8-4. Antonia Kolovou and Elena Kordolaimi completed the doubles sweep with an 8-1 win over Kristina Horsikyan and Sasha Ruocco.
In singles action, Stephen F. Austin almost went through the Bears in straight sets. Murphy was the only Sugar Bear to earn a set win on the afternoon. She took the second set from Jayawickrema, 6-1, but fell 7-6 and 11-9 in the first and third sets.
Gordo, ranked No. 101 nationally for the Jacks, defeated Otani at No. 6 singles 7-6, 6-2.
UCA will look for a bit of redemption tomorrow when they take on Southeast Missouri State at 11 a.m. The match is set to take place indoors on the campus of Hendrix College.
