Hammond, La. –
The Central Arkansas Women’s soccer team continued their current slide, dropping to 1-4 over their last five games with Sunday’s 2-0 loss to Southeastern Louisiana.
The Lady Lions (9-6-1, 3-2-1 SLC) got on the board in the 38
th minute when Megan Miller fielded a cross from Kailey Mills and tucked it into the Central Arkansas net for her first goal this season. Sam McNally added an insurance goal in the 72
nd minute, collecting a pass from Miller and beating Bear keeper Lyndzey Goff for her second goal this season.
Central Arkansas (9-6-1, 1-4-1 SLC) outshot the Lady Lions 6-5 on the day, and placed more shots on frame by a count of 3-2. Elizabeth Brady, Cassie Lange, and Megan Thomas each placed a shot on goal. Both of the shots that Southeastern Louisiana placed on target found the back of the net. Kelsey Gochnauer played 63 minutes in goal for the Bears, allowing one goal. Goff played the other 27 minutes in net, also allowing one goal. Lacey Bockhaus was in goal for all 90 minutes for the Lady Lions, making three saves on the day.
“We had a couple of injuries, which made it rough,” said coach Jeremy Bishop after the game. Central Arkansas lost leading scorer Adriana Lucar to a broken nose in the first half and Vanessa Randall to a knee injury, also in the first half. Referring to the team’s recent results, Bishop said “It’s not from a lack of effort or desire; we just can’t seem to find it. It’s something that you see a few times throughout the season, but to see it happen four times in six games is hard to comprehend.”
The Bears return to action next Friday afternoon, hosting Nicholls State at 4:00. The game is part of Central Arkansas’ “Bears for a Cure” program, which benefits Conway Regional Health Foundation and their fight against breast cancer. According to Bishop, the Bears are looking forward to the game, “We’ll get home and get busy to get on the right track. It’s exciting for the group because breast cancer is obviously something that really affects women, and has effected some of our relatives and friends.”
