UCA TENNIS OPENS 2012 SEASON WITH 4-3 VICTORY OVER LOUISIANA TECH

Simona Horsikyan helped lead her team to a 4-3 victory over Louisiana Tech on Saturday.
CONWAY, Ark. – The UCA tennis team opened its season in winning fashion this afternoon at the UCA Tennis Courts by defeating the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs by a 4-3 count.
 
It marked the first win for head coach Jeff Borengasser, after being named the head coach last June. The Bears and Bulldogs split singles action, but UCA swept the doubles matches, giving them the 4-3 edge.
 
In singles action, Simona Horsikyan and Kristina Horsikyan each got wins in the top-two singles spots. S. Horsikyan defeated Laura Fernandez 6-0, 6-3 while K. Horsikyan downed Anna Zurek 6-1, 6-1. Sasha Ruocco earned the other singles win for the Bears, knocking of Melanie Urvoy 2-6, 6-4, 7-5.
 
Doubles action saw Allison Hartman and Allison Murphy best Fernandez and Alena Erofeyeva 8-3 at the No. 1 slot. S. Horsikyan and Kazumi handled Elne Barnard and Zurek 8-5 and Ruocco and K. Horsikyan completed the sweep with an 8-6 win over Vivian ten Dolle and Urvoy.
 
UCA will return to action on Tuesday Jan. 31 when they travel to North Little Rock to take on the UALR Trojans. Match time for the in-state match-up is scheduled for 9 a.m.
