SAN DIEGO — Central Arkansas ended its four-game losing streak and also brought an end to San Diego State's four-game winning streak, but was unable to pick up a victory as the Bears and Aztecs battled to a scoreless tie on Saturday.
The Bears (1-4-1) nearly got on the board in the first half when Andrew Van Woesik had a shot hit off the crossbar, but it caromed off and the Bears were unable to score on the rebound. In the second half, Joseph Cervantes had a shot blocked to keep the Bears off the board. The Aztecs (5-1-2) had a final shot in regulation in the 89th minute, but Jose Altamirano's shot was off the mark to the right.
UCA had another near-miss in the first overtime when Daylon Schiffel's shot was saved by San Diego State goalkeeper Blake Hylen. Ethan Miller then had a shot at a game-winner with five seconds left, but it sailed wide.
There was little attack in the second overtime, with UCA holding a 1-0 shots advantage. Stephen Williams was able to get one away in the 109th minute, but it was blocked to keep the scoreless tie intact.
The Aztecs were able to get two good looks in the first half, but UCA goalkeeper Amir Pasic stopped one and another was blocked.
SDSU held a 12-7 shots advantage with a 3-2 lead in shots on goal, and also had a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks. Pasic recorded three saves for the Bears and Hylen had two for the Aztecs.
The Bears return to action next Sunday when they host IPFW at 11 a.m. at the Bill Stephens Track/Soccer Complex.
