FORT SMITH, Ark. - The University of Central Arkansas tennis team lost to Arkansas-Fort Smith 5-2 on the road on Wednesday afternoon. The Lady Lions improve to 11-4 overall, while the Sugar Bears drop to 1-11.
UAFS picked up the doubles point by sweeping all three matches. Emily Singleton and Cara Gilham defeated Lisa Mainz and Allison Hartman 8-4 in number one doubles, and at the number three spot Kati Andersen and Alex Rios lost to Stanislava Harvanova and Whitney Hobson 8-4.
UCA won two singles matches. Andersen, a senior Little Rock, defeated Amy Belanger 6-3, 6-2 at number four singles. Hartman, a junior from Brandon, Miss., topped Harvanova 4-6, 7-6, 10-4 in number five singles.
UCA sophomore Kazumi Otani lost to Abby Whittemore in a third-set tiebreaker 3-7, 6-0, 7-6 (7-5) at the third singles spot.
UCA will host their final two matches of the season, both Southland conference opponents, this weekend. The Sugar Bears will play Nicholls at 10 a.m. on Saturday and Southeastern Louisiana at noon on Sunday.
