UCA Volleyball Set to Host First Home Matches of 2011 Season as well as Bethlehem House Food Drive

UCA hosts their first home match of the year Tuesday at the Prince Center where they have won 30 consecutive contests.
CONWAY, Ark. – After six straight weeks on the road, the University of Central Arkansas volleyball team finally gets a chance to extend their home winning streak to 31 games when they square off against UAPB Tuesday night at the Prince Center.

The 30 consecutive home victories is the second longest winning streak in the NCAA. Currently, the University of Cincinnati holds the nation’s longest home winning streak with 42 consecutive.

Following the match with UAPB on Tuesday, UCA will host its first Southland match of the year when they square off with Northwestern State on Wednesday evening.

The Sugar Bears will bring an 8-8 overall record into Tuesday’s match, including winning seven of their last 10. UCA is 4-1 in conference play and currently sits atop the Southland’s East Division.

UCA boasts a 34-4 overall record all-time against UAPB. Last season, UCA recorded two victories over the Golden Lions, each of which were 3-0 sweeps, including a 25-15, 25-7, 25-18 victory in the most recent meeting on Oct. 19 in Pine Bluff.

Wednesday night’s match-up with Northwestern State will mark the second meeting of the fall between the two teams. UCA opened conference play with Northwestern State back on Sept. 15 in Natchitoches, La., defeating the Demons 3-2.

In that match, Taylor Whileyman and Taylor Hammonds led the way offensively with 12 and 11 kills respectively. Marissa Collins had a match-high 50 assists and Cristin Curl helped hold Northwestern State to a hitting percentage of just .108, recording 27 digs.

The first two home matches, along with Saturday’s home match against UT Arlington, will be a part of the Bethlehem House Food Drive. Fans are encouraged to bring and donate non-perishable food items for the Bethlehem House for all three home matches.

The mission of Bethlehem House is to encourage, equip and motivate homeless individuals and families to take the necessary steps to change their life situations.

Admission to all home UCA volleyball matches is free to the public. Match time for Tuesday is scheduled for 6 p.m., while Wednesday evening’s meeting with Northwestern State is set for 7 p.m.
