CONWAY, Ark. – The UCA men’s and women’s cross country teams were in action at the 23
rd annual Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival, hosted by the University of Arkansas today in Fayetteville.
The men’s race featured a 10k course and 288 participants from 32 different teams. Meanwhile, the women’s race featured a 6k track, 296 runners and 34 teams.
UCA’s men finished 24
th overall, just ahead of TCU and Rogers State. The women earned a 25
th place finish in the 32 team field.
The men placed two runners in the top-150 as Amos Gerber finished with a mark of 32:35.6 , good enough for 140
th. Jeremiah Fleeman finished 148
th overall with a time of 32:44.6.
Southern Utah’s Cam Levins was the overall men’s champ, crossing the finish line in 29:13.8. Oklahoma State finished first in the team standings with 25 points. Arkansas was second with 78 and Oklahoma earned a third place finish with 161 points.
The UCA women were also paced by two runners finishing in the top-150. Kayla Nehus was 146
th, finishing with a time of 23:21.8 and Courtney Efurd finished 150
th with a time of 23:25.3.
Texas won the women’s team title with just 85 points. Arkansas and Oklahoma State rounded out the top-three. The individual women’s winner was Silje Fjortoft of SMU. She was the only participant to finish with a time under 20 minutes, doing so in 19:44.2.
UCA is back in action on Oct. 31 when they head to Nacogdoches, Texas to compete in the Southland Conference Championships.
