Box Score

HAMMOND, La. — The Central Arkansas women's soccer team had Southland Conference leader Southeastern Louisiana on the ropes Friday, but the Lady Lions completed their come-from-behind victory in the final minute of regulation to escape with a 2-1 win.

The Bears (6-8-3, 2-4-2 Southland) took the lead in the 65th minute when Kari Mars played a ball to Alex Barnett, who hammered it past SLU goalkeeper Lacey Bockhaus into the upper right corner of the net from 25 yards out for the 1-0 advantage.

UCA then kept Southeastern (13-2-3, 6-1-1) off the board until the 80th minute when Karly Dagys made a run on the right side and drew UCA keeper Kelsey Gochnauer out of the net, then slipped a pass to Maiya Cooper for the tying score.

The game carried on with no further scoring until just 48 seconds remained in the game. This time Cooper and Dagys switched roles as Dagys was on the receiving end of the pass and knocked in the go-ahead score for her fifth goal of the year.

Southeastern had 17 shots and put eight on goal, while UCA had four shots with three coming on goal. Gochnauer made six saves for UCA, Bockhaus had two for the Lady Lions.

With the loss, coupled with Northwestern State's 1-0 victory over Nicholls, the Bears need to defeat Nicholls and have Southeastern defeat or tie Northwestern State on Sunday to qualify for the conference tournament next weekend.
