CONWAY — Central Arkansas battled No. 10 Creighton evenly for most of Saturday's match, but two miscues cost the Bears and the Bluejays took advantage and left Conway with a 2-0 win on Senior Day at UCA.
The Bears (3-11, 0-5 MVC) held the Bluejays to just three shots on goal – less than half their average – but Creighton made the most of two of them and limited UCA to just five total shots, two on goal, and came away with their seventh shutout victory of the season. It marked the 22nd consecutive regular-season road win for the Bluejays, a streak dating back to 2006.
The Bluejays (11-2, 4-0) struck first in the 33rd minute when Ethan Finlay struck from 20 yards out on the right side, shooting it back across into the lower left corner of the net beyond the outstretched arms of UCA goalkeeper Ivan Zarate. It was the 11th goal of the season for Finlay, a preseason All-American who came into the game ranked fourth in the nation in goals scored.
Creighton got the game's final score in the 45th minute when Dion Acoff registered his first goal of the season, taking a cross from Kyle Deremer and knocking it into the lower left side of the goal with the ball grazing off the post into the net.
The Bears nearly took the lead just two minutes into the match as senior Alex Parker hammered a shot toward the lower left corner of the goal, but a full-stretch diving save by Creighton goalkeeper Brian Holt prevented the goal.
Holt recorded two saves in all for his 26th career shutout, breaking the Creighton record.
Zarate, playing his last game in Conway, recorded one.
The Bears will travel to Drake Saturday before finishing up their season at Evansville on November 6.
