Preview: Bears Host UNA for a 3 Game ASUN Series on Alumni Weekend

Conway, Ark.- The Central Arkansas Bears (27-22, 14-10) and the North Alabama Lions (24-23, 15-9) will play a three-game ASUN series in Conway, Ark. at Bear Stadium this weekend. First pitch on Friday is set for 3 p.m., Saturday 4 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. This weekend is Alumni Weekend at The Bear. The Bears have a 13-8 advantage in the all time series going 11-1 from '22 through '24, but the Bears are just 2-7 since. These two teams played earlier this season in Florence, the Lions won that series 2-1. In the Bears win in Florence, Closer Hunter Alexander got the win pitching 5 innings in relief as the game went 11 innings. Currently, the Bears and Lipscomb are tied for 2nd place in the ASUN Gold Division just one game behind UNA in 1st, AP is in 4th one game behind 2nd, and Bellarmine is two games behind 4th, the top four teams from each ASUN division will be invited to the ASUN Championship.

The Bears played their last midweek non-conference game this week at Memphis. The Bears got a run across quickly in this one, Parker Gwyn hit the first pitch of the game out to left center field, Keaton Laidley hit one deep to right field in the 6th inning. But the Bears gave up 5 runs in the 4th ultimately losing 3-8. JB Williams went 3 innings on the mound giving up just four hits and 2 runs. Two relief pitcher had good outings as well, Kannon Nesslege had 4 strikeouts in 2.1 innings while Austin Jones gave up no hits in 2 innings of work. In ASUN games this season, the Bears are batting .281 with 231 hits and a .471 slg% and their ASUN opponents are batting .273 with 219 hits and a .442 slg%.

The Lions had a midweek game with Samford in Florence, Samford won that game 8-2. The Lions have now lost 3 games in a row after dropping the last two games of their series with Bellarmine as well. However, previous to those three losses, the Lions had won five games in a row. Wes Walker leads the Lions from the plate in ASUN games with a .347 average, 23 runs scored, 33 hits, 6 doubles, 10 hr, 32 rbi and a .747 slg%. The Lions pitching staff has a 6.00 era, 1.65 whip, has issued 114 walks and struck out 171 batters in ASUN games. In ASUN games this season, the Lions are batting .295 with 251 hits and a .519 slg% and their ASUN opponents are batting .286 with 229 hits and a .441 slg%.
