Preview: Bears Set to Play Their Last Mid-week Game at Memphis

Conway, Ark.- The Central Arkansas Bears (27-21, 14-10) will play their last mid-week, non-conference game of the season this week at the University of Memphis Tigers (18-28, 10-11) on Tuesday at FedExPark Avron Fogelman Field in Memphis, Tenn. First pitch on Tuesday, May 5th will be at 3:00 p.m. The Tigers have a 9-3 lead in the all-time series against the Bears. Last season the Tigers beat the Bears 11-8 in Memphis. The last time the Bears beat the Tigers was in 2020 in Conway.

Last weekend the Bears were on the road for an ASUN series with Austin Peay. The Bears lost games one, 2-5. In game one Jagger Schattle and Jack Runsick both hit home runs, Jake Jones took the loss throwing five innings giving up 5 runs, 4 earned. In game 2, the Bears lost 1-2 when the Govs walked it off in the bottom of the 9th. In game three, the Bears had a big 4th inning scoring 5 runs. Parker Gwyn had 3 hits including 2 doubles, Keaton Ladley also had 3 hits in the game with 1 double. Silas Cowgill picked up the win and Alexander picked up the save. The save was Alexander's 20 career save making him UCAs career saves leader. Overall this season, the Bears are batting .269 with 432 hits and a .436 slg% while their opponents are batting .280 with 455 hits and a .433 slg%.
 
The Tigers hosted East Carolina last weekend winning the series 2-1 after winning the last two games in that series. However, the Tigers have lost 5 of their last 8 games. Michael Gupton is leading the Tigers at the plate with a .285 BA, .928 ops, 49 hits, 2 triples, 12 HRs, 39 rbi and a .570 slg%. The Tigers pitching staff has a 7.40 era, has issued 228 BBs and 338 SOs.
