Preview: Bears at Home for Final ASUN Regular Season Series

Conway, Ark.- The Central Arkansas Bears (29-23, 16-11) and the Lipscomb Bisons (24-23, 17-10) will play a three-game ASUN series in Conway, Ark. at Bear Stadium this weekend with a lot on the line. First pitch on Thursday is set for 6 p.m., Friday 6 p.m. and Saturday at 1 p.m. On Friday the Bears will have a graduation ceremony before the first pitch and Saturday will be Senior Day. This is the final weekend of regular season games. The Bears and Bisons are tied 10-10 in the all-time series. These two teams played earlier this season in Nashville, the Bears won that series 2-1. Currently, the Bears are in a tie for 2nd place in the ASUN Gold Division with UNA, they are just one game behind Lipscomb who is in 1st, Austin Peay is in 4th. These four teams have clinched a spot in next weeks ASUN Championship taking place in DeLand, Florida. With at least two wins this weekend and one UNA loss, the Bears will be at the top of the ASUN Gold Division headed into the ASUN Championship.

Last time out, the Bears played a three-game series with UNA in Conway. The Bears won the series 2-1. The Bears won game one with strong pitching from Denver Hamilton and Hunter Alexander and a six-run 8th inning. In game two the Bears set the school record for the most home runs in a season at 57 when Zane Denton went yard, Nate Negre also hit a home run in the game. Game three was a 10-inning classic. Jacob Pannell, Silas Cowgill and Hunter Alexander pitched great giving up just three runs on six hits. UNA homered in the top of the 9th inning to take the lead, Parker Gwyn then led off the bottom of the 9th with a home run to tie it back up. Then in the bottom of the 10th the Bears walked it off when Jack Runsick scored on a wild pitch with the bases loaded. The win set the stage for a big final weekend to ASUN play. In ASUN games this season, the Bears are batting .287 with 266 hits and a .471 slg% and their ASUN opponents are batting .276 with 253 hits and a .437 slg%.

The Bisons moved into 1st place in the ASUN Gold Division after sweeping Bellarmine last weekend in Nashville. The Bisons have now won four games in a row. The Bisons scored just 13 runs in their series with the Knights, but only allowed 9 runs. Hutson Miles leads the way for Bisons at the plate in ASUN games with a .367 average, 28 runs and is 9-9 on stole base attempts. The Bisons have hit 21 home runs, 44 doubles, and 8 triples in ASUN games. The pitching staff has allowed 29 home runs, 38 doubles, just 1 triple and has a 5.87 era. In ASUN games this season, the Bisons are batting .299 with 279 hits and a .431 slg% and their ASUN opponents are batting .272 with 252 hits and a .408 slg%.
