Preview: Bears Last ASUN Road Series

Conway, Ark.- The Central Arkansas Bears (26-19, 13-8) and the Austin Peay Governors (21-23, 11-10) will play a three-game ASUN series in Clarksville, Tenn. at Joe Maynard Field at Raymond C. Hand Park this weekend. First pitch on Friday is set for 6 p.m., Saturday 4 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. This will be the last ASUN road series for the Bears. The Bears and Governors will play for the 17th time when they meet on Friday. Overall, AP has an 11-5 lead in the all-time series. Earlier this season these two teams played a three-game series in Conway. AP won the series 2-1. Currently, the Bears are in 2nd place in the ASUN Gold Division and Austin Peay is in 4th place, the top four teams from each ASUN division will be invited to the ASUN Championship.

The Bears did not have a midweek game this week, last time out was the ASUN series at Bellarmine. The Bears swept the three game series scoring 33 total runs. The Bears and Knights also played earlier this season in Conway, the Bears won that series as well, 2-1. The Bears have now won three ASUN series in a row and have swept their last two series. In Louisville, the Bears hit six home runs. Zeb Allen hit 3 on the weekend, he now has the UCA single season HR record (he is also the UCA career HR leader). Allen was named ASUN Player of the Week for his performance last week. Mark Ross and Casey Shipley went back to back with home runs on Saturday. On the mound last weekend, Denver Hamilton got the win in Friday's game, he is now 7-0 on the season. Jake Jones got the win on Saturday, he is now 4-1. Hunter Alexander got the win on Sunday in relief, he is now 5-1 on the season with 9 saves. Alexander and Jacob Pannell each had seven strikeouts on Sunday. In ASUN games this season, the Bears are batting .284 with 204 hits and a .487 slg% and their ASUN opponents are batting .271 with 189 hits and a .443 slg%.

The Governors didn't play a midweek game this week either, their scheduled game with Western Kentucky was rained out. Last weekend, the Govs lost their series at Lipscomb 2-1. The Bisons scored 19 runs in the series, while the Govs scored 21 runs. In ASUN games, Paris Pridgen is leading the team in BA at .347, hits with 26, and doubles with 6. Cole Johnson and Ray Velazquez have both his 7 home runs to lead the team. In ASUN games this season, the Govs are batting .293 with 207 hits and a .501 slg% and their ASUN opponents are batting .284 with 206 hits and a .458 slg%.
