Conway, Ark.- The Central Arkansas Bears (13-12, 3-3) and the Austin Peay Governors (12-13, 3-3) will play a three-game ASUN series in Conway, Ark. First pitch on Friday is set for 6 p.m., Saturday 4 p.m. and Sunday 1 p.m. The Bears and Governors have played 12 times since 2023 with the Govs leading the series 8-4. Last season the Govs won five out of six games as the two teams played two three game series, home and home. The Bears and Govs will play again later this season in Tennessee on May 1-3.
Earlier this week the Bears had an in-state match-up with the #4 Arkansas Razorbacks. The Bears got on the board first scoring in the 2nd and 3rd innings but the Hogs had a big fifth inning to take the lead and never looked back. Jacob Pannell got the start on the mound, through the first 10 outs of the game, he didn't give up a run or hit. But the Hog hitters got to him in the fifth. Zeb Allen went 1-2 on the night scoring both runs for the Bears while hitting his 10th home run of the season giving him 23 career home runs, he is now just one away from the UCA career record. In ASUN games this year the Bears are batting .295 with 59 hits and a .515 slg% and their opponents are batting .317 with 66 hits and a .505 slg%.
The Govs are coming off of a loss in their midweek game against #22 Alabama, this was the Govs third match up with a ranked opponent so far this season. The Govs have played two ASUN series so far this season. First they won a series at Bellarmine 2-1 and then lost a series with Lipscomb at home 1-2. Zion Taylor is the leading hitter for the Govs with a .404 average, has scored 30 runs on 40 hits including 9 doubles, 6 home runs, 25 rbi and has a .677 slg%. In ASUN game this year the Govs are batting .333 with 73 hits and a .516 slg% and their opponents are batting .285 with 59 hits and a .483 slg%.
