CONWAY, Ark. — Central Arkansas (17-10, 12-2 ASUN) secured a decisive 79-62 victory over West Georgia (12-14, 6-8 ASUN) on Saturday night at the Farris Center. The Bears capitalized with 38 points in the paint and forced 14 turnovers from West Georgia. With the win, the Bears will receive a first-round bye in the ASUN Tournament.
Central Arkansas opened the game with a strong offensive effort, taking an early lead over the Wolves.
Javion Guy-King scored the first points at 19:24, assisted by
Luke Moore, establishing the initial 2-0 advantage.
Camren Hunter and
Ty Robinson contributed layups and a three-pointer, pushing Central Arkansas to a 13-8 lead by the 15:02 mark.
Truman Byrne's two three-pointers and Moore's consistent scoring in the paint helped the home team extend their lead to 30-17 with 10:08 remaining. Despite the Wolves' efforts, including a three-pointer by Brady Hardewig at 5:29, Central Arkansas maintained control, finishing the half ahead 44-35.
Luke Moore was particularly impressive, recording a career-high total of 21 points.
Central Arkansas extended its lead over the Wolves in the second half, fueled by a balanced offensive attack. Robinson hit key three-pointers at the 18:25 and 5:01 marks, and adding two free throws with 2:09 remaining, he ended up with his first double double of the season scoring 23 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Guy-King also played a pivotal role, scoring a layup at 15:38 and a three-pointer at 11:30. The Wolves' Malcolm Noel kept the visitors competitive with two three-pointers and a series of free throws, but Central Arkansas maintained control, ultimately outscoring the Wolves 35-27 in the half. The victory also marked a milestone for Central Arkansas with 12 conference wins as an Division ! program, setting a new school record.
