CONWAY, Ark. – With NCAA Regionals starting, the ASUN has released their postseason awards for outdoor track and field, and the Bears took home plenty of selections for the spring of 2025. The league started the morning with the Academic All-ASUN teams, and Central Arkansas claimed three spots in a highly competitive field.
On the men's side, distance runner
Pete Johnson and thrower
Malik Beasley earned selections to the academic team. Johson holds a 4.0 GPA in his post-baccalaureate work in physical therapy, proving to be a dynamo both on the track and in the classroom. He also placed second at the ASUN Outdoor Championship in the 3000m steeplechase, coming in at just under nine minutes, and took home sixth in the 5K. Beasley, working toward a master's in education, holds a 3.83 GPA, while winning the outdoor hammer throw with a distance of 62.56m, and second place in the shotput.
One women's track athlete also made the team, in a group of athletes that was exceedingly worthy. Holding a 4.0 in her degree path of exercise science,
Kylie Coleman provides a prime example of dominating academically while still performing at the top of her game; she placed third at the ASUN Championships in the pole vault after clearing 3.48m, helping the women's team win the outdoor championship.
"It's no surprise that these three individuals earned all ASUN academic awards. They represent exactly what we want our program to be about, which is succeeding not just on the track but in the classroom. These three individuals are ready for what's to come in the real world." – Head coach
