TOPEKA, Kan. – The University of Central Arkansas track and field teams wrapped up an eventful day two of the Washburn Open and Multi meet on Saturday. The Bears broke six school records on day two, bringing their total to eight across the full meet. In addition to the six school records, Central Arkansas totaled 35 top ten finishes on day two, adding up to 57 over the full meet.
Bears head coach,
Josey Weaver was very happy with his teams' performances on the weekend.
"We challenged our team to show up with passion and effort this weekend; they answered that call and then some," said Weaver. "I'm incredibly proud of our men and women for arriving ready to compete and get after it. We're leaving this meet having broken eight school records, something that has never happened here during my time. Even more impressive, school records were set across every event group."
Sloan Jones started day two off the same as day one, with a meet record. This time, Jones set the record in the 60m hurdles event of the men's heptathlon, good for a first-place finish.
Nathan Uptagrafft came in fifth with a time of 8.41.
Uptagrafft was at the top of a nearly all Bears finish in the pole vault event of the men's heptathlon. His 4.70m vault put him in first place, Jones' 4.60m put him in second-place, while
Lance McNew got up to 4.20m and claimed third-place.
Alexander Anderson earned a fifth-place finish at 4.00m, and
Levi Dugger placed sixth after coming in at 3.80m.
Uptagrafft came out on top in the heptathlon after the final event, setting a school record with 5288 total points across the event. Jones finished in second place with 5233 points, while Dugger took seventh and Anderson came in eighth.
Next,
Zoe Williams broke a nearly 14-year-old indoor record in the women's 60m hurdles semifinal round, with a time of 8.57. She was not done though, breaking her freshly minted record in the finals, by over a tenth of a second, taking third place with a time of 8.45.
Brenae Allen was the next record breaker for the Bears, running a 7.36 in the women's 60m dash semifinals.
Raghan Allen,
Danyelle Poole, and
Troynelle Miller also qualified for the finals round, where Miller took a fifth-place finish coming in at 7.51.
In the women's pentathlon long jump event,
Keirstin Moore placed first with a meet record distance of 5.74m.
Madisyn Crandall came in ninth with a jump of 5.44m.
Jeremiah Boudreaux earned a third-place finish in the final round of the men's 60m hurdles with a time of 7.90.
Byron Holt followed in fourth-place at 8.05,
Xavier Simpkins came in fifth at 8.06, and
Christian Brown took eighth coming in at 8.28.
Gabriel Torres placed seventh in the finals round of the men's 60m dash with a time of 6.83.
Next,
Jack Dingman came in sixth with a time of 4:04.95 in the men's one-mile run.
Jaden Schneeberger placed fourth in the men's shot put, marking at 16.61m.
Eli Jones came in 10
th with a 15.47m throw.
Raghan Allen and
Brenae Allen finished hot on each other's heals in the women's 400m run, coming in at 56.59 and 56.60, good for sixth and seventh-place.
In the long jump events,
Brayden Burris placed seventh with a jump of 6.97m, while
Maverick Walker came in 10
th with a jump of 6.83m on the men's side. On the women's side,
Karis Martin placed fifth with a 5.60m leap.
Abby Machesky finished eighth in the women's 800m run with a time of 2:15.05.
Bailee Villavaso then broke her own record in the women's pole vault with a 4.02m vault.
Ansley Drake and
Mallory Whitaker each posted a 3.57m, claiming fourth and 10
th respectively.
To round out the night,
Joia Perry also broke her own record in the women's weight throw, also setting a facility and meet record in the process. She took first place in the event with a 20.42m throw.
Joy Nance took second-place with a throw of 18.30m,
Serena Degollado earned fifth with a 16.35m throw, and
Jane Musengwa placed ninth with a throw of 15.47m.
"Our athletes deserve all the credit," Weaver said of the incredible performances. "They've set some lofty goals as we keep our focus toward the ASUN Championships."
The Bears will be back in action next Saturday, in Fayetteville, for the Woo Pig Classic.
