CONWAY, Ark. _ The University of Central Arkansas Bears closed out the regular season on Saturday with Senior Day activities at Bear Stadium.
The North Alabama Lions won the series finale 7-5 with a comeback effort in the ninth inning. UCA got three hits and three RBI from freshman shortstop Nate Negre, and a pair of runs batted in from fifth-year senior second baseman
Tanner Leonard.Â
The Bears also got a solid relief outing from junior right hander
Bryce Parlin, who went 3.2 innings and struck out a career-high four batters while allowing just one run. UCA starter
Jake Jones, a redshirt freshman, was just as good on the front end, going 3.0 innings with one hit and a career-high five strikeouts.
The Bears opened the scoring in the first inning an RBI single by Negre, scoring
Zeb Allen who had a base hit to left field. After UNA picked up two runs in the fourth, UCA responded with four in the bottom of the inning. Leonard had a two-run single and Negre had a two-run single.
The Lions, who are also in the tournament field, scored once in the seventh and added three runs in the ninth.Â
UCA will be the fourth seed from the Gold Division and will face Graphite Division top seed Stetson at 3 p.m. (CST) Tuesday on the Hatters' home field at Melching Field. The first-round losers will play again on Wednesday, with the winners advancing to play Thursday.
