CONWAY, Ark. _ Weather has delayed this weekend's ASUN series between the University of Central Arkansas Bears and the Lipscomb Bisons, scheduled for Bear Stadium.
The teams will attempt to begin their three-game series on Sunday, with a time to be determined Sunday morning. The first game will likely be Sunday night, with a doubleheader played on Monday.
The Bears are coming off a three-game sweep of Eastern Kentucky last weekend at Bear Stadium, followed by a 3-2 victory over in-state rival Arkansas State on Tuesday in Jonesboro. The four-game winning streak is UCA's longest of the season and puts the Bears at 4-5 in league play.
Lipscomb enters the weekend 5-4 in the ASUN and 11-16 overall. The Bisons took two of three games from North Alabama at home last weekend before losing 14-9 to Middle Tennessee on Tuesday, also at home.
The UCA-Lipscomb series is tied 6-6 after the teams met four times a year ago. Lipscomb took two of three from UCA last year during the regular season in Conway, but UCA won the biggest matchup. The Bears beat the Bisons 3-0 in the Pool B opener of the ASUN Tournament behind a complete-game effort from ASUN Pitcher of the Year
Jesse Barker.
Last weekend against EKU, the Bears hit .337, led by
Bryce Cermenelli and
Nathan Negre at .500. UCA got home runs from four different players, including Negre,
Preston Curtis,
Zeb Allen and
Casey Shipley. Junior right hander
Charlie Christensen was dominant in Saturday's 2-0 win, tossing a complete game and striking out nine batters to earn ASUN Pitcher of the Week honors.
The Bears are set to host the Little Rock Trojans at 3 p.m. Wednesday before hitting the road for just their second ASUN series away from Bear Stadium next weekend at Bellarmine in Louisville, Ky.
