CONWAY, Ark. _ The University of Central Arkansas Bears will host the Bellarmine Knights in a weekend ASUN Conference series in conjunction with Alumni Weekend.
The Bears (15-24, 8-10) and Knights (10-31, 6-12) will open their three-game series at 6 p.m. Friday at Bear Stadium. Saturday's game is set for 4 p.m., with Sunday's finale at 1 p.m.
The Bears took two of three games from the Knights on April 11-13 in Louisville. UCA won 10-5, lost 1-0 in 11 innings and took the final game 10-7 at Knights Field.
UCA currently stands in fourth place in the six-team ASUN Gold Division, with four series remaining in the regular season. Bellarmine is two games behind UCA in fifth place, two games ahead of Eastern Kentucky (4-14). The top four teams from each division make the ASUN Tournament in late May in DeLand, Fla.
In the previous series against Bellarmine, UCA had a .263 batting average and a 4.18 earned-run average. Bellarmine hit .202 and had a 4.34 ERA. UCA junior
Charlie Christensen went nine innings in Saturday's loss, allowing six hits and striking out five before the Knights won the game in the 11th inning. UCA's two victories came from freshman
Aden Velasquez and junior
Cooper King, both in relief efforts.
UCA had seven extra-base hits in the series, including seven doubles (2 by
Keon Moseni) and a home run by
Zeb Allen. The Bears took advantage of 21 walks and 8 hit batters by Bellarmine's pitching staff.
The Knights are in the middle of a 13-game road swing and have lost four consecutive games after winning the series opener at North Alabama 15-5 last Thursday. Bellarmine will play a team from a fifth different state over the past seven days, including Tennessee, North Alabama, Miami (Ohio) and Southern Indiana.
