CONWAY, Ark. _ The University of Central Arkansas Bears will open a four-game home stand on Tuesday night when they host the UAPB Golden Lions at Bear Stadium.
The Bears (14-21) and Golden Lions (11-27) will meet at 6 p.m. in the second matchup of the season. UCA beat UAPB 10-3 at Torii Hunter Field on Feb. 25. The Bears scored 10 runs on 10 hits and overcame three errors to secure the victory.Â
Junior righthander
Jacob Pannell got the victory, going 5.0 innings and allowing 4 hits and 1 unearned run while striking out 4. Senior
Perry Titlow finished it off with 4.0 innings, allowing 2 hits, 2 unearned runs and striking out three. Sophomore left fielder
Zeb Allen was 3 for 5 with 3 runs scored and 3 runs batted in, while freshman shortstop
Nathan Negre went 2 for 4 and had a season-high 4 RBI.
UCA is coming off a three-game ASUN sweep at the hands of the Lipscomb Bisons last weekend in Nashville. UAPB has won six consecutive Southwestern Athletic contests, with a 13-3 loss to Top 10 Arkansas in between those weekends. The Golden Lions are just 6-22 playing on the road against a formidable schedule that included Arkansas, Missouri and Oral Roberts, as well as in-state matchups with Little Rock and Arkansas State.
Two former Bears are on the coaching staff at UAPB, former shortstop R.J. Pearson and former starting pitcher Mark Moyer.
UCA will be at home this weekend as well, hosting Bellarmine in an important ASUN series. The Bears will also be hosting Alumni Weekend.
