JONESBORO, Ark. _ The University of Central Arkansas Bears will get a second shot against the Arkansas State Red Wolves at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Tomlinson Field.
The Bears and Red Wolves played last Wednesday in Conway, with ASU winning 12-2. Since then, UCA swept an ASUN series from Eastern Kentucky, winning 8-7, 2-0 and 16-6 in seven innings last weekend at Bear Stadium.
ASU (13-14) went 2-1 in a home series with Louisiana-Monroe, winning 4-3 and 5-3 and losing 8-2 in the middle game of the series.
In the previous meeting, ASU out-hit UCA 13-7, including home runs from Will French and Ashton Quiller. UCA senior catcher
Casey Shipley had UCA's only home run as seven different players had one hit each against five different ASU pitchers. The Bears used seven pitchers in the mid-week clash, including redshirt freshmanÂ
Jake Jones, who is expected to get the start on Tuesday. Jones struck out all three batters he faced in his one inning.
UCA third baseman
Bryce Cermenelli leads the UCA offense and the ASUN with a .414 batting average. He reached base in UCA's first 24 games of the season until that streak was broken last weekend. Cermenelli also had a team-best 14-game hitting streak end against EKU. He has 15 multi-hit games, which leads the team.
UCA is second in the ASUN with a .282 batting average, and is tied for second in fielding percentage at .972. UCA's pitching staff ranks ninth with 7.71 earned-run average.
ASU is 4-5 in Sun Belt Conference play after being swept by Texas State the previous weekend. The Red Wolves opened league play by taking two of three games from Marshall.Â
