CONWAY, Ark. _ Round 1 of the "I-40 Showdown" between the University of Central Arkansas Bears and Little Rock Trojans is set for 3 p.m. Tuesday at Gary Hogan Field in Little Rock.
The Bears (6-11) will take on the Trojans (8-12) will play twice more this season, on April 8 in Conway and again on May 6 in Little Rock.
UCA is coming off its opening Atlantic Sun Conference series on the road against North Alabama, where the Lions won two of the three games, both in 10 innings. UCA won the middle game 6-3 in Game 1 of Sunday's doubleheader.
The Trojans have yet to begin play in the Ohio Valley Conference but went 1-2 in a weekend series at UT Arlington, winning 10-6 in Sunday's finale.Â
The Bears and Trojans will be meeting for the 91st time on Tuesday, with UCA leading the series 48-41-1. Little Rock has won five of the past six meetings, with the teams splitting two games a year ago. The Trojans won 8-4 at UCA's Bear Stadium and the Bears returned the favor 6-3 at Gary Hogan Field.
Gavin Alveti earned UCA's win on the mound last year in a bullpen game that saw both teams use eight pitchers in a game that lasted 3:22. For the series, the Bears hit .239 and the Trojans had a .206 batting average. UCA had four starters hit better than 400 in the pair of games, including
Tanner Leonard,
Bryce Cermenelli and
Zeb Allen, all at .429.
