CONWAY, Ark. _ The University of Central Arkansas Bears will get their sixth shot at the red-hot Arkansas Razorbacks in the modern era on Tuesday night in Fayetteville.
The Bears and No. 3 Razorbacks will meet at 6 p.m. at Baum-Walker Stadium.
The Razorbacks are as hot as any team in the nation, standing at 15-1 overall with 11 consecutive victories. Their only loss of the season was 3-2 to Kansas State on Feb. 21 at the College Baseball Series at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. Arkansas is 13-0 at home after a high-scoring sweep of Portland last weekend, a series in which they outscored Portland 35-8.
UCA (5-8) is coming off a home series against Evansville, an NCAA Super Regional team from a year ago. The Bears won Friday's opener 11-10 in 10 innings, then dropped the final two games 6-5 and 8-0.
The Hogs are hitting .320 as a team, with three players over .400 and three more topping the .300 mark. Kuhio Aloy is hitting .468 with six home runs, while his older brother Wehiwa Aloy is second at .433, also with a half-dozen home runs. The Razorbacks have 33 home runs through 16 games. which ranks seventh in the nation, and have allowed just nine.
The UA pitching staff has also been solid with a 3.09 earned-run average, which sits 14th in the country. Arkansas is expected to start sophomore left hander Colin Fisher, who has a 1-0 record with a 1.12 earnd-run average. UCA will counter with senior right hander
Perry Titlow (0-0, 20.2 ERA).
In the last meeting a year ago, Arkansas held off UCA 9-7 after the Bears loaded the bases in the ninth inning and scored one run.
Jagger Schattle finished 3 for 5 with 2 RBI, while
Drew Sturgeon and
Bryce Cermenelli had two hits each. Cermenelli had a team-high three RBI.
The Hogs are 5-0 against UCA since the in-state matchup returned in 2021. The overall series lead for the Hogs is 8-4-2, with the other games played between 1921 and 1948.
