Hunter Alexander was named the Atlantic Sun Conference Pitcher of the Week on Monday.
Alexander, a 6-foot, 205-pound junior right hander from Bigelow, Ark., had a stellar relief outing on Friday against Evansville at Bear Stadium. Alexander pitched the final 3.2 innings of UCA's 11-10 walk-off win over the Purple Aces, striking out eight of the 13 batters he faced and allowing just one hit, one walk and no runs.
Alexander struck out the side in both the eighth and ninth innings, setting up UCA's walk-off win in the 10th inning. He totaled just 46 pitches to improve to 2-1 on the season.
UCA plays at No. 3 Arkansas at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Fayetteville, Ark., before opening ASUN play against North Alabama this weekend. That series will be played at UAB in Birmingham, Ala., due to construction at UNA's home field.
