NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Central Arkansas fell to #15 Vanderbilt 83-72 on Saturday at Memorial Gymnasium, with Vanderbilt maintaining an undefeated record at 10-0. Despite the loss, the Bears held Vanderbilt 13 points below their scoring average.
The first half began with Vanderbilt's Tyler Nickel scoring a three-pointer just nine seconds into the game. Nickel continued to power the Commodores' offense, contributing three more three-pointers and a fast-break dunk to help the home team build a 19-6 lead by the 13:58 mark. The Bears responded with a series of successful plays, including a three-point shot by
Camren Hunter at 13:05, narrowing the gap. Vanderbilt maintained control, however, finishing the half with Frankie Collins adding two free throws and Duke Miles converting two more to secure a 47-31 lead at the break.
The Bears began the second half with a strong push, narrowing Vanderbilt's lead with a three-point play by
Malchiah Marable at 19:50. Vanderbilt's Nickel and Tyler Tanner countered with consecutive three-pointers, extending their advantage. Despite a spirited effort from the Bears, including a three-pointer by Hunter at 6:45 and a fast-break three at 1:13, Vanderbilt maintained control. Impressively, the Bears outscored Vanderbilt by 5 in the second half. The game concluded with Jalen Washington's free throws, sealing an 83-72 victory for Vanderbilt.
