Central Arkansas Athletics to Opt In to the NCAA House Settlement for 2026-2027

Central Arkansas Athletics to Opt in to NCAA House Settlement, Launch Revenue-Sharing Initiatives for Student-Athletes in 2026-27
Conway, Ark.- The University of Central Arkansas announced that it will formally opt in to the NCAA House Settlement, with implementation beginning in the 2026-2027 academic year. This landmark decision positions UCA alongside other NCAA member institutions embracing a new era of college athletics that includes revenue-sharing opportunities for student-athletes.

The House Settlement, which follows a series of national legal challenges to the NCAA's amateurism model, establishes a framework for universities to distribute a portion of athletics-generated revenues directly to student-athletes. For UCA, this means building structures that both align with NCAA guidelines and reflect the university's long-term commitment to supporting its student-athletes.

Sport-Specific Revenue Sharing
Beginning in 2026-27, UCA Athletics will share revenues tied to specific sports programs. This model ensures that student-athletes contributing to their sport's success will benefit directly, balancing innovation with sustainability.

"As we entered into the post-House era of college athletics, we have been intentional about evaluating the entire landscape and making decisions that are in the best interest of the University of Central Arkansas," Director of Athletics Matt Whiting said. "Our goal is to provide a great Division I athletics experience and ensure the long-term health and stability of our programs.

"This plan provides a sustainable pathway to pursue these goals, and coupled with the move to the United Athletic Conference, positions Central Arkansas Athletics well for the future."

Establishing Championship Resource Funds
In addition to sport-specific revenues, UCA will create Championship Resource Funds through the UCA Foundation. These funds are designed to supplement revenue sharing initiatives by providing additional financial resources through philanthropic giving. By leveraging donor support, these funds will enhance the scope of resources available without relying solely on annual athletic revenues.

Championship Resource Funds:

Football Men's Basketball Women's Basketball Volleyball
Baseball Softball Men's Soccer Women's Soccer
Men's Golf Women's Golf Beach Volleyball Stunt
M&W Cross Country M&W Track and Field

Commitment to Student-Athlete Experience
University leadership emphasized that these changes represent more than just financial adjustments. The new system underscores UCA's commitment to enhancing the student-athlete experience, from competitive opportunities to academic support.

"As the landscape of college athletics shifts amidst a host of other operational challenges for American higher education, it is even more important for universities to balance commitments to student-athletes and sports programs with a plan that is financially and operationally sustainable," UCA President Houston Davis said. "These bold but carefully planned moves will ensure that UCA Athletics is on sound footing for years to come.

"We are excited about the future!"

Looking Ahead
As the 2026-2027 academic year approaches, UCA Athletics will work closely with coaches, student-athletes and campus partners to finalize implementation details.

This decision signals a new chapter for the Bears, one that blends tradition, progress and a strong investment in the student-athletes who represent the university.
