McKinzee Haas Named ASUN Freshman of the Week

CONWAY, Ark. – Volleyball freshman McKinzee Haas was awarded by the ASUN for her spectacular week, helping the Sugar Bears go 2-0 in two matches and staying perfect in ASUN play. For her efforts, Haas was named the ASUN Freshman of the Week, the conference announced Monday afternoon.

Haas, a Cabot native, had one of her best weeks of the year, and made some history for the Sugar Bears. She recorded 16 kills across nine sets, making just one error, and hit .469 on 32 total attacks. But even more important than her offense was her defensive efforts. Against North Florida, the freshman recorded 11.0 total blocks, marking the first double-digit effort by a Sugar Bear since 2021, and the first double-digit block game in an ASUN match this season, by any player in the ASUN.

The weekly award marks the first for the Sugar Bears this season, who improved to 4-0 in ASUN matches last week. Haas has been a staple in the middle for the Sugar Bears, leading the team with 56.0 total blocks in 52 sets played. On offense, she ranks fourth on the team with 79 kills, hitting .292 on the year.

Haas and the Sugar Bears are at home for two games this weekend, facing off with FGCU on Friday at 6 p.m., followed by a 1 p.m. Sunday showdown with Stetson.
