Track and Field Teams Earn ASUN Awards

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Central Arkansas track and field teams were well represented this season, earning both athletic and academic honors. TyJuan Huffman was named the ASUN's Most Outstanding Track Performer after a stellar season on the track. And the Bears were also rewarded on the Academic All-ASUN teams, with two athletes from the men's team and two from the women's team earning the nod.

Huffman was named the Outstanding Track Performer after a terrific season for the Bears. He took home gold in the 200 meter dash at the ASUN Championships in Conway, posting a personal-best time of 20.89. He was also part of the program-record setting 4x100 team that set a new Central Arkansas record with a time of 39.67 seconds, taking home gold in that event as well. The sophomore will compete in the 4x100 at the NCAA First Round next week, running in the Fayetteville regional.

The two men's selections for the Academic All-ASUN Team were Kobe Gill and Armonte Paulk, both of whom will represent the Bears at the NCAA Track Meet next week. Gill maintained a 4.0 as he pursued his Master's degree in College Student Personnel Administration. He was also part of the gold medal winning 4x100 group, winning the 100 meter dash on his own with a time of 10.41.

Paulk, also completing a College Student Personnel Administration masters, maintained a 4.0 over the course of the academic year as well. Representing the Bears in the 200 meter at the NCAAs, Paulk picked up a pair of bronze medals at the ASUN Championships this spring, placing third in the 200 meter (21.24, PR) and the 400 meter (46.40, PR).

On the women's side, Natalie Louw and Sara Steimel were named to the league's all-academic team. Louw, is completing her MBA and registered a 4.0 this academic year. She earned a bronze medal in the long jump at the ASUN Championships, with a distance of 5.95 meters, a personal best. Earlier in the season, she took home first in the high jump with a jump of 1.67 meters at the Bison Open.

Steimel, working on a Master's in instructional technology, also earned the nod after finishing the year with a 4.0 GPA. She set a Central Arkansas record earlier this spring with a 32.25.95 in the 10,000 meter. She also took home first place at the Little Rock Invitational with a 4.36.22 in the 1500 meter, setting a new personal best.
